TAIWAN - Just months after releasing her critically-lauded debut EP ‘Purple Alien’ on powerhouse imprint Barong Family, Taiwan’s finest export returns with her sophomore EP on the label but this time under Yellow Claw management.
‘Alien Invasion’ sees RayRay move from presenting herself to the world for the first time to an artist adamant on carving out a finely tuned style and sound that is uniquely her own. This time around, she adds to her trap persona with an EP that dabbles in dubstep, hard house, jersey club and hardstyle, as well as lending her vocals to every track on the EP to show the true extent of her range.
The EP opens with ‘Outer Space’ which is a sequel to last year’s ‘Purple Alien’.
The statement-making track defines RayRay’s vision of herself but in true Barong Family style. The unapologetic opening track sees RayRay rapping “one for the treble, two for the bass, and three for the alien in the outer fucking space” on regular rotation.
‘Drumstick’ features label mate Juyen Sebulba who together deliver a tune with obvious hard house undertones coming in at 150bpm that saw the pair experiment with new elements.
‘Back n Forth’ is the output of a studio session with French-born Aazar at ADE last year and sees RayRay branch out to weave elements of Jersey Club into her productions.
‘Samurai’ is the fourth track of the EP and echoes the cyberpunk vibes of last year’s ‘Ninja’ with its dreamy lead and cool bass line.
The final track of ‘Alien Invasion’ is ‘Like This’ featuring LA artist Lil Debbie and heavy-hitting Dutch producer Gianni Marino. Armed and loaded with an impossibly catchy drop and synthy vocals over 150bpm trap music, ‘Like This’ solidifies the all-encompassing diversity of the EP.
Having recently played a string of iconic events around the world like Tomorrowland, SXSW, ADE, Glastonbury and Sonar in Barcelona, as well as taking home the top prize at the Red Bull Thre3style competition, continued on her current trajectory RayRay looks to establish herself further west this year and can be expected to tour the United States in the not-so-distant-future. The fast-rising future star also has music coming out this year with Yellow Claw, work with Spinnin’ Records and Protocol Recordings, with releases on Tiësto’s label Musical Freedom to follow.
